That’s an interesting point kate, but I would call it chemistry instead of "wavelength connection". While most people think "chemistry" only occurs in romantic relationships, it us definitely involved in plutonic relationships too. Most higher organisms are genetically inclined to help their kin, so when one meets a person who reminds them of family or themselves, a truly meaningful relationship can occur. Call me a pessimist, but I think most humans cannot easily make bonds with people who they are dissimilar to (don’t ask me in what specific ways this would be, its probably all pheromones :p).

this reminds me that i owe you a call tonight :) i was going to call anyway, i swear! just a quick trip to the grocery store after work, then i will ring you up.

and more broadly, this is a really interesting question. towards the end of the post, you ask, what merits a lasting friendship beyond two peoples desire to have it. i don't have a definitive answer, but what comes to my mind is the idea of being on a wavelength with someone. i know that's a hackneyed phrase, but i think it can be true - with some people, there's just an ease of conversation and a sense of understanding that you can't really explain. these people are rare in life, and i have made it a point to try to not completely lose the few that i have because it is so rare to find.

and by the way, i include you in that group! :)
