Kicking My Own Ass
There’s quite a bit of irony in us spending $100,000+ for an institution to kick our asses and get us to learn. Justin’s at the law library at Duke (yeah, right now, trust me), Kim’s studying Greek philosophy translated into French, and Sam’s spent 2 hours/day for six weeks preparing for the LSATs. Why do I deserve a vacation?
Sure, getting paid to travel around the states was quite a whirlwind and a dream, but all good things must come to an end. Now I’m back in College Park and attempting to make a living for myself. If only I could follow the lessons I learned in college:
- Eat cheaply. Ain’t nothing wrong with a bagel (or 3) for dinner.
- You can never have too many commitments.
- Homework isn’t from 9-5.
Right now I need to kick my ass and make a living. As of this moment my goals are:
- To be a premier legal technology consultant
- To make a decent profit and be debt free in the next year
- To stay in shape and exercise (not just dance) twice every week.
- To save enough money to travel abroad for two months with Kim in 2004-2005
These things don’t stand on their own. There are conflicts in attempting to develop my reputation, make a profit, and have an isolated vacation…but there is one thing that makes it all possible: time.
The trouble with not having a formal impetus is that we want to cut corners…but right now I just can’t do that. This is real. Some day ahead law school looms. Some day ahead I may be successful. But right now I’m just a student of the world. And there’s nothing wrong with staying up a little, working on some homework due to myself in the morning.
