Learning to Learn through People

Apathy is a great evil. People complain so much, but so often the problem is the attitude with which they approach things. If they don’t think things are going to work out and they go for the bare minimum, then they certainly won’t enjoy anything. And, yes, this applies to the RA position, as I mentioned earlier.

Patience is very important, and can be synonymous with caring. Listening to people and having time for them is very necessary. In the last week I’ve talked to a lot of rushed people who are simply anxious to “get things done.” While that’s one of the goals, it’s not what life is about. If we spend all our time trying to finish things and never enjoy the process then we’re missing the point.

Caring and patience aren’t necessarily natural traits. If you knew me two years ago you’d know how much I rushed through everything. But the amount of effort it takes to just listen, wait, and be with people does not even compare to how much it’ll benefit the relationships.

Life is about experiences, not accomplishments. Why rush to get things done? Listen to what others have learned and take time building your own experiences. That is the point.
