A Little on Memphis…

I’ve survived my first week in Memphis. Not everything is as intuitive as it should be (i.e. roads like to change names a lot),but it’s been nice to see another part of the country. I’ve yet to visit the historic areas (though I hear Graceland isn’t the most attractive place…), but I’ve still been fairly busy. This week I have the house to myself, so I guess I’ll have to find things to do. Thank god for dance.

Don’t get me wrong, the scene isn’t the greatest here, but I have met a few people and managed to stay sane. On Friday I went to a ballroom dance from 8-10 and then headed over to a bop dance until midnight. As a guy it’s not so bad, because I can always lead. However, it wasn’t so easy for my friend Tanya, who didn’t have the greatest experience with the bop. But it’s all good, we danced a lot, and I’m glad to have met one person my age so far :).

On Saturday we hung out again, as she knows no one around here either. And Sunday I spent a while just playing guitar and working on the pictures that are now up on this site :). Now I’ve really just got to find something to do on the fourth. Too bad I had to sell my ticket to James Taylor… I’ll miss all you guys at home…

But, as I was saying, life ain’t bad. I’m fixing (jk) to start doing some real stuff. I’m going to start teaching lindy hop to a few people this week, and hopefully hold regular classes. I’m checking out University of Memphis’ swing scene on Thursday. And I hope to see Beale Street this weekend.

And if I get bored, I certainly have Daryl’s bizarre cat to keep me company. So that’s the latest with me, what have you been up to?
