A Great Break…

The perfect goodbye is a welcoming one. Though I’m sad to leave home, I feel welcome and missed here. This last month I’ve spent so much time with some really great people, and I’ve relearned what it is that I value so dearly in them.

No, this isn’t even the final goodbye. This afternoon I’ll leave for the Beantown Lindy Hop Camp, from which I’ll return on Friday. Then I’ll pack up and head out to Memphis (for work) on Sunday…

But I feel like I’ve at least made progress and enjoyed this last month. I spent a lot of time with my mom, my dad, Bobby, Tama, Anna and Sam… and that was nice. And I met some great people on the dance floor. On the one hand I’m sad to leave the new faces that haven’t really developed into solid friendships, but on the other I know that they’re like the others that I’ll be meeting at Beantown, in Memphis, and back at school. There’s lots of time for new friends, dance partners, and then some…

So this entry is really just a thank you. Even though many of us only see each other a few times a year I can easily bring to mind the things that I’ve learned from you since high school ended. Bob got me into guitar. Anna played a large role in my dance. Tama and Bob taught me so much about what I need from people and should be myself. And Sam, you’ve taught me a lot about staying in shape, and you’ve been a good friend. Mom, in spending a lot of time with you I’ve realized that we are so much alike, though we’ve chosen very different paths. And Dad, it’s always a pleasure to talk with you.

So that’s that. Thank you for a great break, both to the old for staying strong and the new for showing me where I’m headed. Keep in touch.
