Bobby Thompson

As I said earlier, I feel that some people are really worthy of praise. While there are imperfections to everyone, sometimes there are people I’m just so happy to talk about… and Bob is one of those people. He’s the kind of person who turns everything to gold in his path, people included. By that I mean that although he’s extremely talented and kind, he is always willing to notice and point out others’ strengths.

But he has so many of his own. He’s the guy who all the senior girls liked when he was a freshman…but he still wasn’t interested. He’s the kid who played varsity soccer (but didn’t practice much) all through high school and then went on to get a full ride at a division one school…and continue his legacy there. He’s the one who can can recite hundreds of lines from movies and get the accents just right… He’s the son who no matter how busy he gets still spends more time with family than anywhere else. He’s the boy who’s dated the girl down the street through high school into college. And he’s the friend who makes eye contact just with you even when he’s talking to a group, thereby letting you know who you are to him. He’s Bobby T…

I met him as a freshman in high school. That year we played basketball with Pete after school on the hoop in my room all the time. Through high school we hung out sporadically, both busy with our respective sports, but we never lost touch. There were always the occasional times we sought advice from each other. And then there were the two weeks we spent together while my family was away in Europe. Or the summer when he briefly dated my good friend “Apple” ;).

And now he’s the amazing guitarist and soccer player at BC. I owe him a great deal for his patience with my guitar and the meals I’ve eaten at the Thompson household. I love the Thompson family. I’ve never met a group of people so laid back and beautiful. So yeah, that’s Bob: the quiet kid that everyone loves but no one knows… well, except those lucky few. Thanks for that, Bibbidy T. In a few years maybe we’ll share an apartment in Boston, right…? You can bring Deidre along…
